Can light damage molecules ?

Yes. Chemical bonds may be destroyed and new ones be created. Different molecules may stick together. This happens, for example, between two thymine molecules.

The molecule can also loose an electron. This is called photo-ionization. As a result, the molecules may undergo chemical reactions. This is what happens for example in the case of DNA.

TREL the molecule is attacked by a photon and looses his hat (an electron).
